5 Simple Steps to Achieve the Korean Glass Skin Makeup Look

You’ve probably heard of the phrase “skin like glass.” Yes, that one is used to describe skin that’s smooth, glowing, and clear, appearing like a piece of glass 🤭. This term originated in Korea and is used to describe Korean beauty. It’s a trend that has gained massive popularity in recent years, mainly due to its emphasis on natural beauty, a healthy complexion, and the idea that excellent skin care is the foundation for any makeup routine.

But here’s the catch! Achieving this look is more than having clear skin; it is also about creating a complexion that is hydrated, poreless, and gives off that beautiful glow.

In this article, I’m going to take you through the details of what glass skin means, the steps and products involved in achieving it, and some practical tips for integrating this into your skincare routine. So walk with me, and let’s explore this exciting topic together.

What Does Glass Skin Mean?

Think of glass skin as the surface of a flawless piece of glass—smooth, poreless, and radiant. The term is centred around achieving a clear and youthful complexion with no visible imperfections.

Now, note that this is not necessarily about having a shiny or oily face but more about an intense, healthy glow that shows your skin is in top condition. To achieve this, you must address multiple aspects of skin health, including hydration, exfoliation, and oil production. This is a multi-step approach that requires consistency and the right products. The goal is to refine your skin’s texture and maintain your moisture levels so that it looks like it is glowing from within.

So, how do you go about it? Well, that’s why I’m here 😉. Allow me to take you through the step-by-step process of achieving Glass Skin

Step-by-Step process of achieving Glass Skin

Cleansing

The first step toward getting that glass skin is ensuring that your skin is thoroughly cleansed; this is where the double-cleansing method comes in. If you’ve not seen my article on double-cleansing, be sure to check it out.

So, the idea is to use an oil-based cleanser first to remove makeup, sunscreen, and any oil-based impurities. Then, follow up with a water-based cleanser to get rid of any remaining dirt and sweat. This process is critical because clean skin allows the other products in your routine to penetrate more effectively. A thorough cleanse also ensures your pores aren’t clogged, which is essential for achieving a smooth texture.

Exfoliation

exfolATE

Exfoliation is crucial for achieving the smooth texture that glass skin requires. Regularly exfoliating removes dead skin cells that can make the skin look dull and uneven, thereby revealing fresh, smooth skin underneath. You can also minimize the appearance of pores and create a radiant finish.

Both physical and chemical exfoliants can be used for this process, but it’s important not to overdo it, as this can lead to irritation, especially for sensitive skin.

Toning

After cleansing and exfoliating, the next step is to apply a toner. In the glass skin routine, toners hydrate and prep the skin to better absorb other products. A hydrating toner softens the skin and preps it for the heavier layers of hydration to come. It also helps to balance the skin’s pH after cleansing.

Many Korean toners, for instance, are designed to add an extra layer of moisture and soothe the skin. You may find that some of them include ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, or soothing extracts like aloe vera.

Moisturizer

A good moisturizer is essential for locking in all the hydration and goodness from the previous steps.  If you want that glass skin, then look for a moisturizer that is lightweight but hydrating enough to keep your skin supple throughout the day. This is because proper hydration is crucial for maintaining that dewy, smooth look, and a good moisturizer will help create a barrier that keeps moisture in.

Experts often recommend gel creams or water-based moisturizers mainly because of their ability to hydrate the skin without feeling greasy.

Soft glow makeup

Glass skin goes beyond just your skincare. In fact, it’s basically about everything that’s applied on your skin, including makeup. The right skincare needs to be complemented with the right makeup routine. That’s how you create that flawless finish.

The first thing you want to do is create a good base with your primer. Next, you go in with your foundation and concealer, but be sure that they’re your correct shades of products – this will give you that natural glow.  If it’s your thing, you can also go in with setting and Illuminating powders but be sure to add that extra highlighter and blush for a more defined glow. The thickness of your brows is entirely your choice. Whether you want something natural or thick, just go with what makes you feel confident. After that, finish up with some lip gloss, and apply a face mist or setting spray to keep everything in place.

And there you have it! A clean and flawless glow. For this process, less is more.

One more thing…

No skincare routine is complete without sunscreen, and this is especially true for glass skin. Sun damage is one of the main causes of premature aging, hyperpigmentation, and dullness, all of which will prevent you from achieving that clear, glass-like complexion. So while you’re adding every of these other steps in your routine, make sure to include a lightweight, broad-spectrum sunscreen.

Final thoughts

Achieving glass skin isn’t something that happens overnight. It requires a dedicated skincare routine and consistency. While this might seem time-consuming, many of the steps are quick once you’ve integrated them into your routine.

Achieving glass skin also requires being minimalist with your makeup. As I mentioned earlier, it’s not about using too many products, but rather about using the right products. With the right products and techniques, you can create a complexion that is smooth, hydrated, and radiant.

So what are you waiting for? Start that journey of nurturing your skin and creating that healthy glow.
