How to Make Your Makeup Last All Day

Did you know your makeup can last all day if you want it to?

If you’re anything like me, you probably want to keep that flawless beat all day long, but the problem is that it never stays. I’ve realized that it takes a whole new level of skill-set to get your makeup looking sleek all day.

I know you’ve probably been playing around with makeup for a while now, and you know the basics of how to apply it. But the truth is, when it comes to keeping the look for a longer time, there are a few things you want to keep in mind, and in this article, I’m going to share some of them with you.

Use the right products

The first step to keeping your makeup fresh and flawless is by using the right makeup product for your skin type. When it comes to choosing your primer, foundation, or powder, it is essential to make your selections based on your skin type.

For instance, if you have oily skin, you should consider lightweight and oil-free products which do not clog the pores. Oily skin produces excess oil, especially in the T-zone, which includes the forehead, nose, and chin, so these areas can be prone to shine, enlarged pores, and acne.

For this skin type, you may want to use mattifying products to reduce the shine and even your skin tone.

Also, ensure you use the perfect shade of foundation. This will help avoid any kind of patchiness in your makeup which often happens when you use a pale shade of foundation as opposed to one that matches perfectly with your skin tone.

Aside from using the right product for your skin type, you also want to use long-lasting products. The best way to do this is by using products designed to last all day and night.

Get the Primer Right

If you want your makeup to last longer, you shouldn’t skip the primer. And, of course, choosing a primer will also depend on your skin type. Basically, it’s all about prepping your face properly. If you use the right products to prep your skin, it’s almost certain that your makeup will last longer.

For instance, if you have dry skin, use a hydrating primer to prep your skin and prevent your makeup from settling into fine lines or dry patches. You can also finish your makeup with a hydrating fixing spray to lock in the moisture and give your skin a dewy finish.

On the other hand, if you have oily skin, you should try using a mattifying primer to control the oil and create a smooth base for your foundation. You may also consider using astringents as part of your skin prep products. Typically, these are water-based skincare products that are used after washing to remove leftover makeup and cleanser, and they can have a drying effect on the skin.

While it might not be necessary for all skin types, people with oily skin may find this very helpful.

Conceal and Correct

If you’re looking for a makeup routine to help your skin stay smooth and clear all day, this is the one.

The first step to getting more coverage with your foundation is to conceal imperfections. While this is such a simple procedure, it can make a lot of difference.

To do this, apply concealer directly on any spots that are dark or red, such as acne and scars. If you have large pores or visible lines, such as wrinkles, you may want to add an extra layer of foundation over those spots.

Another essential trick is to set your makeup with a translucent powder. Because this kind of powder matches your skin tone without tinting it, it keeps your makeup fresh for longer.

Choose Waterproof Mascara

If you’re a fan of mascaras, come close. This is one trick you definitely want to try. When applying mascara, it’s important to use one that is waterproof, as this ensures your makeup lasts longer and doesn’t run into your eyes or smear your makeup.

Also, if you’re wearing several coats of mascara on both the top and bottom lashes, you should consider using lash primer before putting on any more layers for added durability.

And here’s an extra tip: if you have long or thick eyelashes, try applying mascara directly to the roots of your lashes first so that they curl up nicely with less effort.

Moisten your Eyelids before Applying Eyeshadow

This is not a very common makeup trick, but it works.

If you want your eyeshadow color popping, and intact, try to moisten your eyelids before applying eyeshadow. While there are eyeshadow primers that can help with this, moisturizing your eyelids first could be a more affordable and easier alternative.

To do this, you’ll need a cotton swab and some eye drops – you can substitute this with water or whatever solution you prefer. Dip the tip of your swab into the bottle containing the solution, then gently swipe it across each lid until they’re fully saturated with moisture.

The next step is to apply the eyeshadow directly onto the lid using your fingers or an applicator brush. Ensure the eyeshadow sits nicely on your lid while doing this, and also spread out any excess liquid so it doesn’t run into creases or folds on either side of your face. This will prevent the liquid from causing smudges when you try adding more shadow later on in the day.

One last thing…

There’s so much that goes into keeping a sleek look all through the day. It goes beyond slapping on some highlighter or powder.

Your makeup will last longer when you start effecting these changes in your makeup routine. And by choosing the right makeup for your skin type, you can make a big difference in how your skin looks and feels.

Remember, different skin types have different needs and preferences when it comes to makeup products and application techniques. So be sure to find what works for you first, then you can start from there.
