Hey people! It gives me great pleasure to review this home grown eye pencil that has been a staple for some years now. Though locally made, I can tell you for sure that this brand has extended its shores beyond its country of origin and is now being sold on Amazon! Not to worry, illd drop the link to purchase as we proceed with the post.
But first, let me tell you all that you need to know about this pencil!
Appearance of both pencils
There are currently two versions of the beauty line by Didi pencils. The first one which was initially introduced is a slimmer rollable pencil with a spoolie brush at its end. It has brown and black as its major outlook colours.
The second pencil which I think was released later on, equally has a brown/black outlook, but is more robust in comparison with the later. A major difference to note with this particular pencil is that it is a pencil that can be sharpened as opposed to the rollable version.
Each of the versions have their pros and cons and I would be sharing some of them with you today as we delve into the individual promises and performance of each pencil.
Rollable Didi pencil
Promises
This pencil is popularly referred to as browgasm by the manufacturers, and from its name you know it is a product that is intended to get people hooked/obsessed.
Browgasm is said to be a one shade fits all, ultra precise brow pencil that is meant to keep the brows in check with a precise tip that creates a full, natural finish.
This micro-slim pencil defines and fills in gaps that mimic the look of real hair. The spoolie brush on the other end tames and combs brows to create effortlessly defined eyebrows.
So in summary, this product is meant to
- Get your eyebrows looking like your natural
- Is a One-Shade-Fits-ALL pencil
- Is GUARANTEED to be smudge-proof and lasts up to 24 hours
Does the rollable Didi pencil come through with its promises? Let find out in the performance section.
Performance
As much as I would say I am into this product, I come bearing nothing but the truth! There shall be no bias here.
It does come through with some of its promises and doesn’t come through with some others. Permit me to expatiate.
Yes, it does get your brows looking natural with feather-like strokes, eliminating the painted look most other eye pencils tend to give, but I would say that this pencil shade is not really a one-size-fits-all shade.
My super dark-skinned ladies were dealt a hard blow on this one. So the thing is, I can use it comfortably as I am not on the extreme melanin pole. However, for the super-rich/dark melanin ladies, this pencil would struggle to gain visibility. Like fam! I have used it on a couple of super dark-skinned models, and it was a huge NO! I had to pick up a darker pencil shade to make it work.
That being said, another thing I like about this pencil is that it is not oily and doesn’t smear so easily, but it is definitely not smudge-proof. I also cannot categorically say that it can last for a full 24 hr period.
it is also not too great for defining the brows for a beginner, however if you are a make up artist or artisan you would do just fine with it. Then, there is the important detail of ensuring that the pencil is not rolled out completely to avoid breaking it. You need only a tiny bit of the pencil rolled out, or else you would frustrate yourself and waste your pencil. So, yep this is a Con for me; the pencil breakage is a big No.
This pencil currently retails for about 10.99 USD, and I honestly feel it is quite pricy considering it doesn’t last as long as its sharpenable counterpart.
With all that is said and done, I still pretty much love this pencil because it tends toward the natural side of life. The hair-like strokes the pencil gives are still second to no other, in my opinion, and an absolute must-have.
Rating
I would rate this pencil a solid 7 out of 10
Sharpenable Didi Crayon
Promises
Now this is the real deal if I must say. Beauty line by Didi claims that this pencil is a sharpenable crayon that gives the same result as Browgasm. Same quality and same price as the Browgasm as well but only a different packaging.
They say it fills in sparse hair and gives definition of perfect brows, but are they really true to their words?
Performance
One very important detail I would like to scream out about this pencil is that it is absolute value for my money, unlike the browgasm which might break incessantly if you are not too careful.
I would also like to put it out there that the first time I tried out this pencil, it didn’t resonate with my spirit! It gave crayon vibes like the name implies and it was a tad bit difficult carving out any brow shape. So I counted it as a bad buy and set it aside.
Then some how, I got reunited with its newer version, because I am almost certain the Didi crew changed something about this pencil to make it better. It was giving defined with the sharp pencil edge! It was nothing like the crayon one I had used initially. This pencil has since then, been a fave.
It currently retails for about 8.99 USD (on discount sale) and in my opinion, slightly pricy but it would serve you well.
The beauty line by Didi Crew probably heard complaints about the browgasm and elevated their game with the sharpenable pencil. Another great side to it is that it doesn’t only fill in sparse hair well but can help define/carve out your brows before filling, unlike the browgasm which doesn’t do too well with brow carving.
However, just like the brow gasm, the one shade fits all might not work too well for really dark/melanin rich girlies.
All in all, this pencil remains a great buy anytime any day!
Rating
I would rate this a solid 8 out of 10. I am rating it slightly higher than the rollable pencil because this doesn’t break as much.
That’s it with the review guys, I hope this review informs someone out there on the decision to purchase these pencils. Ciao💕
