What is the Kevyn Aucoin sensual skin enhancer?
I found myself asking this question a couple of times some few months ago. The rave of this luxurious product failed to pass me by, as everyone, including some of my make up besties threw praises at this particular product.
Then I asked, the burning question……..”what is a skin enhancer? Do they mean a concealer? Or perhaps a foundation? Maybe even a tinted serum? It was difficult to comprehend. Thankfully, now I have experienced this product and I can categorically tell you what it is.
The Kevyn aucoin skin sensual enhancer from the little note in it’s pack says that it is a magnificent all in one, customizable concealer, foundation, eye primer and highlighter that was made to enhance/perfect your skin’s outlook and reduce blemishes. Amazing right? This is the first ever product I have come across with such robust versatility. Let’s quickly delve into its appearance before moving on to its promises/performance.
Appearance
The Kevyn aucoin sensual skin enhancer comes in a petite cube like purple box with some dark (almost black) and light purple ensemble going on. Just know that as far as I am concerned, this is a gorgeous product package.
Now the box has written on it, its product name (Sensual Skin enhancer) and the brand name (Kevyn Acoin)
The box further opens to a small cylindrical, transparent bottle with a black cover. There is a wierd stopper placed between the cover and the bottle, and I honestly don’t know its use. Infact I would have preferred if they took that thing out of the package lol!
There was a day I tried to remove the stopper and the worst happened! It sunk deep into the product and I ended up wasting a huge part of the product. My heart break on that very day was intense fam! I eventually threw the stopper in the trash can.
Just in case you never knew, Kevyn Acoin was an American make up artist , photographer and author. He was said to be responsible for the “sculpted” look of many celebrities and top models, including Whitney Houston, Madonna, Tina turner, Naomi Campbell, and many others.
Aucoin was often noted as being decades ahead of his contemporaries, and till date is considered to be one of the greatest make-up artists of the modern age.
He eventually died in 2002, following a Kidney/liver failure due to an acetaminophen toxicity.
The brand however has remained in business even after his death, and is still being sold in many stores across the world, including Nordstrom, Sephora (where I got mine) and many others.
Shades of this beauty are about 16, ranging from the lighter SX 01 to SX 16. I got mine in the shade SX 13 and it is the perfect fit. It has a net weight of 10g/ 0.3 oz and currently retails for $37.
Promises
As written on its pack, it is a multi use complexion perfector which was designed by Kevyn Aucoin himself to enhance your complexion with a finish that mimics the appearance of healthy radiant skin.
Use alone as a foundation, spot concealer or corrector, enhance bone structure by using to contour and highlight. It has a range of stunning shades, and complementary tones that could be used to contour and highlight.
Pro tip; Use with the Sensual skin primer to create your own desired level coverage.
This formula is said to be flexible, with high coverage and a natural finish. This rich, emollient formula is infused with jojoba oil, vitamin E, and honey to help moisturize and protect skin while instantly concealing anywhere you need concealed. Apply it to dark circles, blemishes, tattoos and discolorations for lasting coverage and smoother-looking skin. It is formulated with a high concentration of pigment that builds to full coverage, giving you more control over the final look.
Performance
Now to the performance of this product!
When I bought this product it was for the sole purpose of using it as a concealer until I discovered it was much more!
So, when I took a brush deep into the product, I realized that less is truly more with this product. It was super thick, and in my opinion, I feel like this product can conveniently hide even the deepest scars with very little efforts.
It is silky smooth and glides well on the skin with a glowy/radiant effect when applied. This skin sensual enhancer is everything its manufacturers think it is, and much more.
It has a buildable high coverage that makes it suitable as a foundation and a concealer if need be. And Yes, it would hide that blemish to the letter!
The icing on the cake is that it has such an amazing line of skin care ingredients such as Jojoba oil, vitamin E and honey. A product that moisturizes and protects the skin while instantly concealing dark circles, blemishes, acne, discoloration, redness, tattoos, and hyperpigmentation. Yes please!
My cons
Ok, I have cons too. I don’t like the fact that it doesn’t have an appealing fragrance, however it doesn’t smell pungent either, just this bland smell that tells you it is a cosmetic product. Of course my second con is that ridiculous stopper thing they put as a barrier between the product and its cover. I absolutely dislike it
