For my 2nd shoot, I was determined to create a gorgeous look that would speak volumes for my brand.
Unfortunately, a world of unprecedented events occurred around the shoot and these events set me completely off balance. The important thing though is that I pulled myself together and faced my challenges head on.
I mean, after spending a fortune on photography, a proper decor set and hair styling, the face beat for the shoot was required to be top notch.
I intended to give it my all! The jitters were present no doubt; I absolutely loathe working under pressure, but I had a master plan or so I thought.
My master plan was almost thrown out the window y’all but for the intervention of a darling friend, Tohun.
The initial plan was to ace trials for my face beat, days before the shoot, this in my opinion was going to help to acquire the confidence required. The shege my eyes were however seeing at the time almost made me throw in the towel.
Thankfully, Tohun came through with the motivational speech and cheer.
Fam, I did my trials a day to the shoot against all odds and I am happy I did.
You know, being familiar with the look you intend to create for a big day is important. Trust me, it makes you faster and certainly boosts your morale. With trials, you are sure to avoid mess ups and unplanned surprises.
Now to my skin prep…….
I tried a beautiful and slightly tweaked skin prep regimen that absolutely came through for me.
As a combination/oily skin baby girl, I had no need for touch ups, neither did I break into any sweat saga on my shoot day. Thanks to this regimen, my face beat was lit.
So, what kind of friend would I be if I don’t share my skin prep secret with you?
TSJ’s fail proof skin prep (combination to oily skin)
- First I had to get my hands clean enough to touch my pretty face. Remember, this is a germ free zone.
- Then, I went in with my simple moisturizing face wash, followed by a good rinse off.
- Next, I wet my cotton pad with a bit of Neutrogenia’s (alcohol free face toner) and went round my face to remove missed dirt/ impurities.
- I followed through with the Micellar Garnier water in a cotton pad for a double cleanse.
- Now the Mehron skin prep came in handy. I dabbed a bit of it on my oily T zone only. Please note that I didn’t use the Mehron all over my face as it is an astringent that could be super drying.
- Shortly after the previous step, my T zone felt a bit too dry, so I sprayed the Milani (make it last, prime, correct and set) to bring back the moisture and instantly felt much better.
- My next step was the application of moisturizer (I used Tm essential’s illuminating moisturizer)
- I also went in with my illuminator (Absolute USA) on my cheek bone and some highlight areas.
- It was then time for my primer, I went in fully loaded. First with my La girl smoothing face primer (this instantly reduces my pores; it is amaze balls) then I topped it with rimmel London’s mattifying primer mixed with a bit of Becca mattifying primer.
- This next step was for a little extra protection, I put a tiny amount of the Becca Mattifying primer alone on my Oil prone areas.
- After the primer application, It was time to set my prep. For this, I made do with the ben nye translucent powder.
- I still wasn’t satisfied, so I sealed my hard work with a few pumps of the nyx setting spray.
- After these vital steps were done, I felt confident enough to go in with my foundation.
Yes! My skin prep was packed and absolutely fail proof, but I wasn’t quite satisfied.
After the complete job, I went in with a final touch…. “Urban decay’s all nighter setting spray.”
I kid you not, my face beat did not shift during the shoot! For the first time ever, my photographer had no touch up request through the five-hour long shoot!
Yes fam, my shoot took that long, remember it was a family shoot. Family shoots are usually lengthy. I was completely blown away and I honestly never expected the efficiency of this prep!
If you are a combination/ oily skin lady like I am, you need to try this ensemble. You won’t regret it baby girl.
