As much as I love to test waters and create lewks! It is more pleasurable doing them pressure free. Guys, give your make-up artist a big hug today. Slaying a beat is no walk in the park. I would be speaking from a make-up artist’s viewpoint on matters that touch the heart where make up is concerned.
So, you see, each time I tilt towards commercializing make up, I remember what some clients and non-paying muses put me through and I “pick race”. Some people don’t just have the fear of God honestly, and others are absolutely ignorant of the workings of make-up. This is the only reasonable explanation for their unpleasant behavior.
Get this yeah, not all face beats would appeal to you, and that is fine. However, because you have certain preferences does not make a look different from your ideal bad. Trust me, that same look just might be gold standard for another queen.
As humans we are a diverse specie, and so are our likes/preferences. If you love subtle make up, own it and be content. If you love your beat loud with colors splattered over the face, great for you. However, it is absolutely unnecessary to force your views and choices on others.
Here is the thing, Make up artists aren’t hard to come by, especially where I am from. They come in a variety of genres. We have the special effect MUAS, editorial MUAS, Wedding MUAS, you name it.
A robust world of MUA choices exist to suit your needs. Sister, please check out the looks created by any make up artist you intend to book, and agree with your body, soul and spirit that they match your desires. Don’t become a horrorific client in the name of changing a make up artist’s style. Me I won’t stand much for it o, especially when it is overdone. I don’t like stress biko.
Don’t get me wrong, a client could request a subtle lippie or lashless look, that’s not bad. But when you start saying things like………make the contour line bigger, highlight to the back of my head, make my brows robust and almost touching Mars, that’s when there is a problem.
At this point, why not take over the face beat. Why did you even bother employing the services of an artist whose creative juices you can’t trust to get the job done? I just tire o. If the job was so easy, Mbok do it yaself.
Let me share with you some of the not so pleasant clientele base I have experienced in the commercial sector.
- Those who price make up services like they are haggling to buy fish in the market. You people should do better o please. Is it the back bending or steadily increasing cost of make up products? You don’t even want to know how difficult it is to sustain a make up business. Plus make up yato si make up. Yep, I said it……..Bilikis that is using low end products on your delicate skin would bill you an amount worlds apart from someone who actually does the most with quality products to ensure your skin is well protected. And the saying goes, cut your coat according to your size. If you can’t afford something it’s fine, simply move on. Don’t bad mouth or price shame the artist, thank you very much.
- Those who bring their products along, force you to use them and demand that the service price be slashed in half for providing the products. Ah! madam, fear God now. Nobody asked for your products. If that’s what you want, it’s fine but it is certainly no excuse for a price slash. Do better please.
- Annoying muses who give overbearing guidance and counseling during the session and never let go of the mirror. If you were bold enough to book me, please trust the process. Yes no one is perfect, and there might be a few things that don’t seat well but don’t become a demanding pest.
Clients that probably acted in Rush hour; the movie. They give you ridiculous time lines to slay a beat and blame you when things go wrong. Hehehe I laugh in Spanish, good things take time o, don’t come and be giving me 20mins to miraculously complete a slay. Now of course it is very unprofessional to take ages on a beat. As an artist it is important to perfect timing to the best of your abilities.
- This final group of people deserve eyeing. They would call all their family members that are unwilling to pay for “small” make up as they call it.
“Please Aunty it’s just lashes we want, spare one for us now?”
“Just help me draw small eyebrow and rub powder that’s all”
Then they are the ones that don’t respect boundaries and start using your products in your very presence while you work on the main client. No be juju be that? Please let’s be guided.
Like I mentioned, Give your MUA a big hug today, they deal with so much mehn! And for the people that fall into the category of annoying clients, it’s all love and bants o but please do better.
