Brush care categories

Baby gurl! What’s your take on brush care after use? Are you team……..

1. I would clean them sometime in the nearest future/ before next use?

2. Or team get those brushes cleaned ASAP

3. Perhaps you are a member of the Mi o le wa ku crew, who re-use dirty brushes without washing

If you are a member of the 2nd crew, then you deserve a standing ovation, Biko take it.

If you are a team one member, then I laugh in Spanish! You probably won’t get to the brush cleaning until the very last minute and end up using damp brushes.

Awon 3rd gang…. Why my loves? Your beautiful face deserves much better. I can literally see the microorganisms going to church on your face and they are indeed singing glorious hallelujahs.

You need to do better Queen.

TSJ’s three effective brush cleaning techniques

So here is the thing, there is the high budget and low budget technique to cleaning make up brushes.

Frankly speaking, I feel it depends on how much time and money you are willing to invest into this seemingly simple but important task.

So let me introduce you to three techniques I have used in the past in no particular order.

1. The expensive brush cleaning solutions

So, there are too many brush cleaners out there, the expensive kinds and the seemingly affordable ones. What I mean is that there are the pricy MAC brush cleaners, Cinema secret brush cleaners and then the more affordable, Rose water brush cleaners. These solutions are specially formulated to clean your brush bristles with no hassles, a few of them contain alcohol to get greasy formulas squeaky clean in a heartbeat.

For this method, all you need to do is get a small container and pour in the solution. The next thing to do is to get your dirty brushes and dip the brush bristles into the solution one after the other, making sure to massage the bristles for a thorough clean before rinsing out.

It’s as simple as that, the only con is that not everyone can afford brush cleaning solutions.

2. The use of more affordable bar soaps.

So, in this case I made a rule to use only bar soaps suitable for bathing the face. Cloth washing bar soaps never really go down with my spirit.

I mean these brushes are going to your delicate facial skin, so I think it is wiser being intentional about the choice of soap used to get them clean…

That being said, this cleaning technique is super easy. After disinfecting the brushes with alcohol (be sure to avoid the brush handles to prevent disengagement from the bristles), get your bar soap and dirty brushes, then run your tap over them, making sure to swipe the brushes round, left and right on the mat to assist with lather formation and also to get the bristles clean much faster. Once the brush is visible clean, simply rinse out the soap with clean, running water.

3. The liquid soap movement!

This pretty much works like the bar soap so illd spare you the deets. I usually use my liquid bath soap

“Fruiser shower cream” and it does the magic.

So let me quickly mention that your personal brush sets may not require a full wash every single time, sometimes you could use it once and clean thoroughly. with alcohol before air drying. However in my opinion this should be done only after one use, anything after the second use is due for a proper wash and clean.

Also bear in mind that only clean brushes give clean looks! Dirty brushes always come through with the tardy and unpleasant make up looks. It would mess up the clean beat you are trying desperately to achieve.

So for slayed, gorgeous looks, you definitely need to be on top of your brush cleaning.
