Maybelline gems {2 in 1 } review

Drum rolls please!

I would be reviewing two popular foundations from the maybelline brand. I call these beauties my OGs before the current  “OGs”

Fun fact! I gifted my mum one of my maybelline super stay foundations and she hasn’t stopped gushing about the compliments she gets each time she puts the foundation on her skin. In her words, it suits her skin and complexion perfectly!

Let’s get right into the individual reviews.

Maybelline New York Fit me review

This particular foundation I would say is one of the oldies from the maybelline brand! It was one of the first foundations I ever purchased. My friend at the time, sold the foundation to me.

Appearance

It comes in a transparent/ thick glass bottle with a standing rectangular prism shape, and a total volume of 10 fl Oz/30 mls. The glass bottle is a bummer for me due to its potential ability to break, although that rarely happens.
It has a black cover which opens up to the product. One bummer with this product is that it lacks a pump, therefore it is very easy to waste the foundation if you aren’t careful. However, there are ways to work around it. You could always scoop the product back into the bottle. All the information required for this product is boldly written on the bottle. The liquid foundation is not too runny, neither is it too thick. The product consistency is pretty much easy to work with.

The maybelline fit me foundation comes in a complete 40 shade range, giving immense room for a vast array of shade matches. Just so you know, my perfect match is the shade 360 Mocha! It fits perfectly y’all.

Promises

This foundation is said to be a light weight foundation that mattifies and refines pores, while leaving a natural, seamless finish. The manufacturers of this product claim that it is dermatologically tested, allergy tested, non comedogenic, oil free and fragrance free.

They also claim that it is Ideal for normal to oily skin, and that it controls shine and blurs pores for an all day wear.  However, were the Maybelline New York crew true to their words? Let’s find out.

Performance

This was one of the very first mid range foundations I was introduced to as a make up newbie. As a combination oily skin lady, it worked perfectly for me. It was truly fragrance free, I had no dermatological issues whatsoever or allergies from using this product.

It does dry matte and leaves a seamless finish when blended well (in my opinion, it gives subtle time for blending) I would however say that I didn’t appreciate its refining/blurring of pores significantly. I can’t also categorically tell you that this foundation gives a lasting all day wear, but with a good skin prep, wear could be slightly elongated. It is also didn’t feel heavy on my face, and comes through with a medium, buildable coverage.

I pretty much think that the maybelline crew came through with over 75% of their promises.

Rating

I would rate this foundation a solid 7.5 out of 10 for obvious reasons, the product keeps to promise with over 75 percent of promises fulfilled.

Maybelline Super stay 24 hrs review

So, after bingeing on the Maybelline fit me foundation for a long while, I got introduced to my next Maybelline Baby! This is the exact line my mum gushed about, but is this foundation really all that? Let’s find out.

This also comes in a standing rectangular prism shape with a transparent glass bottle and a white cap. One great thing about this foundation is that it has a pump! Foundations with pumps definitely warm my heart as this single gesture helps to reduce wastage.

This product is formulated with a total net weight of 10fl oz / 30 mls. The consistency of this particular foundation is a bit thicker than that of the fit me but it could almost go unnoticed. Finally, it has this moderate cosmetic smell, almost drug like but this is a significant issue when the product is put on the face. It comes in fewer number of shades when compared to the for me, but even with 28 different shades, you are still assured of a fair shade match across boards. I also use the shade 360 mocha with this line. I however find that it runs a tad bit lighter than the fit me, which in my opinion is a perfect fit.

Promises

The manufacturers pack up a world of promises with this particular product, which weren’t present with the fit me variant. They claim that it is a full coverage foundation with up to 24 hrs coverage and a seamless matte finish.

They go further to tell us that it is breathable and comfortable, oil free and transfer/fade resistant!

These are some pretty bold promises. Illd share my honest thoughts on the product’s performance.

Performance

This product truly is a full coverage foundation,  however it isn’t as full as say the Huda beauty faux filter foundation. They also told no lies about the product being oil free. It is quite breathable and comfortable but I don’t agree with the fade/transfer resistant claim. It isn’t 💯 transfer proof, but it could be if a great sealing spray is used on it.

It dries matte as aforementioned. Fun fact though is that I had absolutely no issues with this foundation until I attended a make up conference a while back. You see, I discovered that quite a number of people felt that this foundation dried too quickly and gave very little time to blend. I only started to notice this feature recently but I also discovered, that with a good moisturizing skin prep the blending time before the product dried matte increased.

Rating

This product rates slightly higher than the fit me for me, solely because it has a fuller coverage and is also made to last longer. Illd give it a solid 8 out of 10.

That’s it with the maybelline gems, I hope you try one of these beauties and get the same amazing results like I did, Ciao.
