Just in case you are a relaxed baby girl and you have been passing through my hair care page with anger, biko no vex my darling.
I have got absolutely nothing against being relaxed, I was once a relaxed baby girl too but then I chose to go to the natural side of life, it was necessary to explore and start my beautiful journey .
I have decided to dedicate this special post to my relaxed ladies out there who have decided to remain straight but still want to maintain a healthy crown.
Trust me, it is absolutely possible. Knowledge they say is power!
As a relaxed babe, my level of frustration was off the roof initially. I basically had chopped edges (thanks to braids), really short and unhealthy tips and a high breakage tendency.
It was a nightmare honestly, I got to the point where I made the decision to shave my hair from anger and frustration. Thankfully, our good Lord sent an angel to me in human form to me who goes by the name Oluwaseun.
I can never talk about my hair care journey without mentioning her. She urged me into giving it another go and literally made my relaxed hair her personal assignment. Just so you know, she was a natural babe at the time.
She taught me hair care fundamentals and rules I never even knew existed. How to wash and condition my hair, tips on the frequency of, and proper use of a relaxer and every other thing I needed to make my hair thrive.
Let me share some of my relaxed hair commandments with you
- Thou shall not relax your hair more than twice a year! Ladies even if your hair is troublesome, like those ones that break combs, biko resist the urge to perm more than twice every year.
- Only subject the relaxing/perming of your hair to experienced and knowledgeable hands. Don’t go to people that would put chemicals on your already straight ends for the love of God! Only the coily roots need to be straightened.
- Your relaxers shouldn’t be made to stay too long on your crown 5-10 mins should do, we ain’t frying our hair please there is no need to subject your scalp to unnecessary torture!
- Stay faithful to the relaxer brand that works for you, don’t start changing relaxers like clothing please else, premium tears would be guaranteed.
- Try as much as possible to stay off excessive heat and hair colouring. They do more damage than good fam. I always let my hair dry naturally or with a standing fan.
- Reduce hair manipulation to the bearest minimum to avoid facilitating a love affair with hair breakage.
- Have a decent hair care routine! Don’t get it twisted your hair needs all the TLC possible to thrive. Draft out your hair routine and stay consistent, only then would you see the results you desire.
What was my hair routine like while relaxed?
My hair routine was quite simple actually and similar to my current natural hair care regimen. The only difference was the inclusion of hair relaxers and product differences.
Spelt out
- I relaxed once/ twice a year, depending on how much new growth I had. Yes! You saw ”Once” correctly, my hair is really soft and I could definitely go longer in between relaxers.
- I made sure to wash and deep condition my hair at least once every month. But mostly twice and consistency was the name of my game.
- After each wash day, I followed up with my LOC regimen (Leave in conditioner/Liquid, Oil and cream) That TLC can never be overrated loves.
- I made sure to reduce hair manipulation by protective styling.
- Got my trims as soon as I noticed split ends.
Products that did justice to my relaxed hair back then

- Deep conditioner: Creme of Nature, coconut milk conditioner
- Leave in conditioner: Cantu leave in for damaged hair

I am only sharing with you products that did justice to my relaxed crown back then. It is the idea that matters, you should try giving hair care your all, and watch your crown blossom from pampering it.
